Hey there,
Do you have a moment?
This here is the most important
piece you will read in a long while and it’s most likely going to change your
course in life, give you a new direction or keep you on track…yes… it’s that
much of a big deal.
So I need you to get comfortable,
relax and read.
Are you okay? Are you sure? No
really… are you sure?
Now that we have that out of the
way, let’s talk.
Asking questions is an integral
part of our lives, and from an early stage in life we are encouraged to ask
questions. Some people would consider an inquisitive child to be very smart
“that your boy is so smart, he wants to know everything” they would say, well
it’s normal for kids to be inquisitive, they just got here and they want to
know just how things work whether they are conscious of it or not. But that’s
not the issue today so let me not bore you with that.
Asking questions is also a sign
that shows your lecturer that you were following his lecture, even though
asking a question would mean that you do not understand, and the pride of every
teacher should be that all his students understood and none had questions…I
mean that should be like the aim right? Exactly, that’s what I thought too, but
our teachers still feel incomplete when no one asks a question, they feel like
their job is not done and if you are a teacher I’m sure you know what I’m
talking about.
80% of the time we spend online
is used to search for answers to questions we ask ourselves, questions others
asked us, questions we are yet to know are questions, you are probably reading
this to find an answer to the big question in your head, “what’s the four most
important question?” we find answers to questions we don’t even know exist and
our world keeps breathing on questions, because it’s only human to ask questions,
to inquire, to be curious, to want to know more, to discover and search, and
the only way we can find answers is by asking questions.
If our world is built on
questions, then it’s not out of place to say that questions are usually the
first phase of any invention, they precede any great idea, they usually usher a
new era, questions therefore are an integral part of our being as humans.
Now let’s cut to the chase,
finding answers. Yes! As much as we ask questions, they only matter if we find
the right answers, but the answers we get are only a function of the questions
we ask, in other words, asking the right questions will get you the right
answers. To get ahead in life it is therefore important that you ask yourself
questions, the right questions. These questions should help you discover
yourself, keep you on track, reveal yourself to you, help you realize how far
you have come and where you are headed, asking yourself the right questions is like
taking a stock on inventory, it’s like an evaluation, and like I said…every
invention and idea was birthed by a question, asking the right questions can
definitely be the link you need to reinvent yourself or come up with an idea
that will change everything.
I would not be out of line to say
that you don’t need too many questions to find the right answer…I’ve put
together four most important questions you ought to ask yourself as often as
you can, i would like you to picture these questions like a GPS navigation
system, and you are headed somewhere, as
a stranger…or… okay a tourist in another country, you ought to ask yourself 4
main questions to keep you in the right track and get you safely to where you
headed, you need to ask;
WHERE AM I?
This question does not only inquire
about your location but also your status. Take a second to imagine… imagine waking up in a strange place, the
first question that comes to your mind is “where am I” right?, it is
appropriate to want to know where you are before you make any further move,
more often than not you ought to keep track of your location, ask yourself
where you are on that project, where you are with your goals and ambition,
where you are in your relationship, where you are in life, truth is that we all
have an idea of where we ought to be, asking where you are helps you to know if
you are right where you ought to be or you are far away from there, it’s like
keeping track on yourself, find yourself and know where you are, ask yourself
this question at every step and choice you make, ask yourself this question
before you agree to anything, before you take a job or resign, you need to know
where you are.
WHAT GOT ME HERE?
If you know where you are, it’s
important to find out what got you there, how you got there. This question
relates with attitude and habits, it’s a question that reflects who you are and
what you do and as such should be answered with all sincerity. What got you
here?, what habits and life style got you there, what were the routines you
followed, “the route” you took to get there, you need to be able to draw out a
pattern, a ritual that you followed closely that got you there. If you wake up
11am in the morning and do nothing but watch TV, eat and play video games, you
can imagine where you would be, no thanks to your daily routine, and if you are
the type that is always putting his best in every little thing, always the
first to get to work, the last to leave, developing yourself and building
capacity, it don’t take a diviner to know where you would be, let’s say you
become a senior executive at where you work, you can trace your journey to the
top by looking at what you do every day, your regular routines. You are where
you are because of what you do, we are all a product of our regular routines, get
a paper and a pen, write down your daily routines and find out which of your
routines pushed you up or threw you off course, you can list them out and analyze
how each of these routines got you here.
WHAT DO I WANT?
This is how you review where you
are with where you are going, this question is a goal checker, the first two questions
are reality checkers, you need to face reality after which you face your goals,
you need to remind yourself what you want, sometimes, you realize that that
what you thought you wanted at the start is not what you want anymore, at the
start of your university education, what you want might be to earn a degree and
work in a big firm making big bucks, but by the time you are done with school,
you realize that what you want is to teach young people. Yes… it happens, our
direction in life changes and it’s your duty to know where it is headed and if
you are following or not, this question shows you where you want to go, it
shows you the destination, the future, the vision, this question will put your
goals side by side with the reality, so you can measure how further from the
goal you are. Write down your goals ensure that they are SMART. Specific,
Measurable, Achievable< realistic, Time-Bound, tangible and sustainable.
WHAT CAN I DO TO GET IT?
Now it’s time to reprogram yourself,
you need to identify new routes to take, identify the gas stations, the
restrooms and whatever stops you might need to make, you need to note new
directions you have to follow, these new directions have one aim, to get you to
where you are going, to give you want you want. Say what you want is a better
job, this question is what provides you with the answers regard what you need
to do to get a better job, the routine would be to work on your resume, keep
tabs on the classifieds, join a recruitment service, get a certification etc,
thee are the needed rituals for a better job, asking yourself this question
provides you with the basic tools needed to achieve what you want, the needed
moves to make and the required action to take. Get a pen and paper, write out
what you need, what you foresee, what you anticipate and what you need to do to
get it…don’t just write it and then get back to where you were, no way! You
need to pay rapt attention to the details, follow it like a ritual and soon you
will have what you want.
So there you have my four
important questions….but I have one more question
“Are there any questions”, be
sure to ask in the comments section.
If you can ask yourself these questions, you
will never be lost in life, you will always know where you are, how you got
there, where you are going and how to get there.
So what do you think about my
list? Is there any other question you think I should add? Why don’t you share
with us in the comments section and I will definitely put it up.
Meanwhile, you can share this
with your friends that you are certain they need to find their path and figure
out where they are headed.
EAT, PRAY, LOVE, LAUGH, LEARN,
SHARE and GROW.
