A blonde and a brunette are sitting in a
bar and watching the 11:00 P.M. news. A man is standing on the ledge of a high- rise building, contemplating suicide. The brunette says to the blonde: "I'll bet you $20.00 that the man jumps off that building and commits suicide." The blonde thinks for a moment then replies: "OK, you're on!" They watch for a few minutes and sure enough, the man jumps off the ledge. The blonde sighs and reaches for her wallet, but the brunette stops her, saying: "I can't take your money - I feel too guilty. I have to confess that I watched the 6:00 o'clock news this evening and I knew that the man would jump. The blonde replied: "Oh! I watched the 6:00 o'clock news too, but I didn't think he'd jump off again!"....I know many of us have read this joke many times and i must admit it really was funny the first 10 times i read it (had nothing better to do at that time), and gradually it started to loose it"s humour, i started seeing a tiny spark of reality in this blonde joke which eventually ignited a fire in me... You see friends, this blonde might be dumb to think there could be a change in a news repeat broadcast, but she was not dumb to have had faith in humanity, how many of us truly, really expect something good from the world...we spend hours debating on how defunct the world is, we predict the downfall of nations, economies, and many of us think we are experts in the status qua of the world's misfortune...but can we really believe for once that the war in Iraq would end, there will be peace in Somalia, the economy of Nigeria will be revived, the education system of Nigeria will be among the best in the world and the world itself will be healed...maybe I'm just as dumb as the blonde, after watching the news on TV, reading the newspapers and seeing the state of the world, i still believe the world can be a better place and peace can reign in all nations of the world...it does not matter how many times i see it on TV, or read about it or even hear about how miserable and hopeless our world is, i still choose to believe that the world would get better, that there would be surplus of food for children starved to death in Africa, that America would call back home her troops, that religious crises would end, that all races would leave together as one family and peace will reign...I'm theDaniel Olubunmi Odunlami, on a mission to change my world...and it starts by BELIEVING that IT WILL HAPPEN...TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER...
