The name wickr has come to take it's place on our phones and conversations, and for those of you that don't know yet, wicker is a messaging app that keeps your conversation personal, wickr keeps no record of your contacts, id, messages and the likes, your messages are deleted immediately leaving no records, so you can share pictures, videos and top secret information and the best part is that no one else is aware of whatever conversation you having.
This has proven to be a solution to one of the major problems of the Internet, Nico Sells, CEO and Co- founder of wickr reportedly prides herself on the fact that Wickr is designed by professional cryptographers and that it knows absolutely nothing about its users. The firm spent years designing the most fleeting message on the market with messages being instantly scrambled by military-grade encryption technology and have individual decryption keys, so that no message ever sits alongside thousands of other messages on a server with a master key according to Time Magazine. so If a government were to approach Wickr and ask for records of conversations, Sell and her colleagues would be unable to hand them over, because the records aren’t stored.”
Wickr is not only more secure than other messaging apps, but is also a more user-friendly messaging app.
Sell has said that she wants “millions and billions of people to use our free service”, but there are doubts about the potential breadth of Wickr’s appeal, as stated by Time Magazine, “Even if the rest of the world chooses to remain outside of Wickr’s walled city on a hill, it at least remains an outlet for those who crave privacy and an option for those who might one day learn to crave it the hard way.”
The "self-destruct" part of the software is designed to use a "Secure File Shredder" which forensically erases unwanted files you deleted from your device. However the company uses a proprietary algorithm to manage the data, a practice which is prone to error according to many security experts. On January 15, 2014, Wickr announced it is offering a US$100,000 bug bounty for those who find vulnerabilities that significantly impact users. In addition, a recipient can in general use other software and techniques like screen-capture capabilities or a separate camera to make permanent copies of the content.
In August, 2014 Wickr was featured in the music video for "Black Widow" by Iggy Azalea with over 45 Million views in less than a month.
With the rising demand for privacy, wickr might just be the next level for information sharing.
